Unique Wedding Invitation - Why Not Make Your Own Wedding Invitation

Wedding invitations should not be left to chance and do so much more than inform who, what, where and when.  If you are wondering why, it’s because wedding invitations set the overall tone, theme and often give a glimpse to the reciprocate of the quality of your special day.

Every aspect from the way the wedding invitation is addressed on the envelope through to the font style used for the text on the invitations, a wedding invitation

says whether your day will be formal affair, casual, grand, intimate, themed, traditional, or something vastly different.  I doubt your would of imagined just how much a wedding invitation would reveal?  With this in mind regardless on how much you intend to spend, it’s extremely important to get it right.   While there is nothing wrong going to the local stationary store and buying a an off the shelf wedding invitation pack, I would try to steer clear of this approach as it could look like a kids birthday party, rather than the most important day of your life…

So with this mind what are your options?  Well, you can either hire a company to produce a unique wedding invitation for you.  Or, if this option turns out too expensive then why not make your own?

A custom handmade wedding invitation is an amazing way to cut costs and offer something that is totally unique and individual to your wedding.  I assume as you are already reading this you already own a computer, and probably a printer too, so don’t be put of attempting a do it yourself wedding invitation.  It’s extremely easy to achieve and can look every bit as good as a professional bought product.

If you decide to make your own wedding invitation, then how about commissioning an artist to do a caricature of the pair of you.   This is exactly what my wife and I did as we wanted our wedding to be a formal but relaxed affair.  By having the caricature of us both in our wedding attire, standing outside the church sent the message of just that.  All you need to do is scan the picture and print it multiple times as the front cover of your invitation.

If you decide to make your own wedding invitation then why not make your own wedding ceremony program, hymn sheets, menu, and seating plan too.  By following the same theme as your invitation you will create a truly professional look, and save yourself a fortune too.  Don’t forget you will also need to thank your guests for attending and hopefully for their lovely wedding gift, so why not make your own thank you cards too!

It’s pretty much standard nowadays to allow eight to ten weeks before

your big day to send out the wedding invitations to your guests.  Preparing your guest list early will then allow you plenty of time to organise your unique wedding invitations.  Guests who will be travelling long distances will appreciate the extra time in order to finalise their travel arrangements.  Make sure you also include an rsvp response card, together with a stamped addressed envelope inside the homemade wedding invitation.  This will make the process of replying as simple as possible for your guest and allow you to confirm numbers attending as soon as possible.
